{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: NY Steelhead and Trout

I went up to the Oak Orchard River in Orleans County two years ago in October.  There are so many they will bump into you some places while you are wading. Catching them is another story though.  There are King Salmon, Steelhead, and Brown trout to be had.  Bring a big rod.  Also, the week I went was the same week the Archer's Club has their annual fishing contest.  Anyone can join.  But it is really combat fishing, there are so many there.  The biggest crowd is up at the dam, and it is worth going up there just so as not to miss the experience.  Plenty of places to stay, and not the most expensive vacation either.  I stayed at the 3 C's Marina. A bit "rustic" shall we say, but clean and habitable. Orleans Outdoor provides lots of info as well.

Hi all!

I've been following this group for a while but this if my first time posting. I was wondering if anyone had any information on the trout and steelhead fishing in upstate New York (best time to go, places to go, flies to bring). I'm planning on taking a road trip up there this fall sometime in November (anyone is welcome to join) and just wanted to get some info from DC's largest collection of fly anglers.

On another note, I run a website that gives updates and fishing reports on Potomac River fly fishing (flytimesDC.com), check it out when you get a chance!

Thanks,
Remick
