I launched the kayak out of Riverbend Park today. I paddled up stream for a while and started fishing.
The first fly I started with was a Shannon's streamer. The second cast in I caught a 14" smallmouth. After a while I switched flies to a yellow popper and I caught a 12" smallmouth. When that fly went cold (a few bluegills were also caught) I paddled to a different location. I found this place where the current was flowing right by some heavy grass beds. I started fishing a Shenk's white streamer and I caught a 13" smallmouth quickly. I then swtiched to a Dave's Hopper and I caught two more smallmouth that were 14" and 15". I also caught another 12" smallmouth out of that location on the hopper. After I left that location I switched back to a Shenk's White Streamer and I was fishing another location close to the first one. On the third cast from the switch I caught a 16" smallmouth bass.
All in all it was a very productive day on the river. The fish I caught all appeared to be very healthy and a few of them were fat. The water was very clear and flowing nicely.
I am really hoping that the remnants of Isaac steer clear of this area. I am supposed to go to the Shenandoah River for a weekend next weekend and do a float.
