{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: CARP

Do carp ever go onto the mud flats with the tide? I think I saw some mudding in the canal by the Pentagon once, but have not seen any since.

I just joined this group with the hopes of obtaining some info about fly fishing for carp. Appreciated help would include locations to go and tried and true fly patterns, as well as the best methods for fishing listed flies. Of course, a simple google search could reveal all of those, but I took it upon myself to find a dedicated local group of fishermen who might be able to give more detailed advice. I've been to the Chesapeake and Ohio canal spin fishing for carp (which resulted in a strong hook up with one on a mulberry and the subsequent loss of a large fish due to the 8 lb test mono and only about 25 yards of line), but I strive to learn how to fly fish for them. Of course, this is not my only divergence into fly fishing, I've been to plenty of pristine mountain streams as well as the local warm water hot-spots (mainly four mile run), but, as the title of this topic might suggest, I have been thirsting for another hook up with a golden bone since that fateful first encounter on the canal.
All help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. I live about 10 min outside of DC and am currently a junior in high school. Hopefully I haven't violated any age-requirements there!
