Bit out off topic considering my fishing destination was on the other side of the country, but wanted to give a shout-out to Dan over at Orvis Clarendon for hooking me up with a new Hydros line so I could do some surf fishing in LA over the weekend (wedding). My guide got me onto good fish--a shovel nose shark (aka the guitar fish) on my 8wt! Unfortunately he got off before I could get pix, but he breached and his fins were visible for the ID. The shovelnose made a few good runs and took me into my backing (a first!) Makes me think that it may not be a bad idea to target dogfish on the fly, normally a nuisance species for some anglers. Dogfish are everywhere, kinda like carp. Anyone ever deliberately go after dogfish?
