Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Where to go bonefishing in Miami (without a guide)

I've had success with bones wading in the beach from the Silver Sands Beach Resort on Ocean Drive, Key Biscayne.
Also if you have a rental car, Islamorada is only about a 2 hour drive, and Anne's Beach at MM73 and Sea Oats Beach
at MM74 are both good wade in beaches for bones.  It's so incredibly beautiful there, and while fishing I've seen black tip
sharks, tons of bonnet head sharks which have actually bumped up against me while wading (they only get a max of 3'),
eagle rays, tons of puffer and cowfish, and even a few manatees went by.  Have fun, I'm so jealous!!

The rod is not so much the problem as access to a good, wadeable flat. Bones can be handled on a 6wt no problem!

While fly fishing for bones and catching them might be a stretch this time of year (bonefish are not as a abundant in MIA as they are in other parts of the Caribbean and Latin America), I'm sure you could do well with some of the other inshore species. Tarpon, snook, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, lady fish, and jacks should all be around still and biting. I'd suggest stopping at a local lodge or outfitter down there for more information. If you're planning to wade, be careful. Sharks are everywhere down there especially on the flats.

Title says it all, taking a trip to Miami for family and might get in a day of fly fishing for bonefish. Unfortunately, I will have to wade out from shore, so I am looking for tips on where the best access points are onto the flats around biscayne bay. All I have is a six weight, so I don't know if a day of fishing will even be worth it.

Thanks for the help.
