I have a VA license but I think you can use MD too. I have never been checked in 20+ years of fishing there. From Woodbridge, I am guessing 45-50min with no traffic. It is probably 20min from the corner of 495 and Georgetown Pike... Go west on Georgetown Pike to a right on Riverbend Road, to a right on Jeffrey Rd. Park entrance is on the right. There are some deeper sections that I have typically just swam to find the more wadeable water. Wear a life-jacket for easier swimming and gear carrying.

Most know that I live in Woodbridge. Most of my wading when I flyfish has been in Central Virginia on the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers for smallmouth bass. Where are some good places near Woodbridge that are good for wading? Can you wet-wade these places (I hate wearing waders in the summer because of heat)? What species are good there?--
The Rappahannock is about 40 minutes from where I am now. I use to have some private accesses into the river but I have lost contact with the people that had given me permission (some of them moved too). There are some okay places to wade near Fredericksburg but these places tend to get more pressure because they are accessable. Are there any other public places that get less pressure? How do you access them?
These questions are spawning because I am going to take a friend of mine flyfishing in a few weeks. This will be his first experience with flyfishing and I really want to put him on some fish. I figure that bream and smallmouth bass are the best opportunity and they are easy to catch. If anyone else has some suggestions please let me know.
