I figured as much Richie, thanks. Looking forward to an informative post. I think I owe Russ Wilkinson a few lunches!

Dan,
No treading to worry about - just a list of what to expect from guides, other anglers in various parts of the country & world, and what's expected if you from other anglers & guides (ie: river guides bring lunch on a float, but you provide lunch for guides on a salt trip)

Subject: Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Trout Fishing on the Yellow-BreechesI will second that Tom Baltz is an excellent guide, one of the best! I send a lot of customers to him to fish the Breeches and I always have the utmost confidence that he will deliver a great experience regardless of the number of fish caught. Tom is one of the most patient, gentle, and compassionate guides I have ever met, and a genuinely good human being. In my opinion, Carl's words speak a thousand pictures, and it came through loud and clear that he had a great day on the water with a great guide. Thank you for an excellent report Carl! I am certain you will fish with Tom again and can ask for a few snapshots then, but they seldom compare to the actual memories. Besides, being so busy fishing that pictures are an afterthought is really one of the best problems to have!Richie, I am sure your post will be informative, but please tread lightly and remember that all of the "people here", new or old, are actually part of the fly fishing world because they fly fish. And while opinions vary widely, the fly fishing world is often a house made of extremely thin glass.Let's all remember to have FUN!Dan Davala

Fly fishing guides take on many roles: casting instructor, boat captain, entomologist, emergency room techinician, pincushion, gourmet chef, psychiatrist, bartender, ornithologist, stand up comedian, ichthyologist, marriage counselor, and outdoor photographer.
Not every guide carries your gear, flies for you, your lunch, tippet and leaders, a spare rain jacket, AND a camera.
I'm going to write up a post here in a few days because I think there are too many people here that don't understand certain aspects of the fly fishing world.

Sounds great. One of my favorite places to fish. Sounds like you had a great day. Only side comment is good guides carry cameras...shame on him for not taking a few pics.Frank--

The fishing was great. I landed a dozen Rainbows and Browns and
lost/rolled a dozen more.
This was in the Catch and Release section just below the town of Boiling
Springs. This area is about two hours from DC.
My guide was Tom Baltz, and I highly recommend him. He put me on to
fish and coached me through the techniques of nymphing that river.
Without him, I doubt I would have caught a single fish, since the water
was stained and you couldn't see any fish. It was hot out there, but
the fish were biting.
I wish I had pictures, but I was too busy fishing.
