Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Potomac outing

your doing better then me. my now ex gf wanted nothin to do with fishing and hated that i wouldnt go party last on fridays. instead id be up at 3am fishing on saturdays.  so best of luck to you.  if u want to get her some great excitement.  fish those eddys by the bridge next spring when the shad run.  my dad is an avid fisherman.  i take the time and countless hours to find places n do research and read blogs and bring him along when i find a place that i think is good.  hes beena trout finatic for years.  i finnally convinced him to come with me at the crack of dawn after shad.  he ended up going again the next weekend with out me (i was back at college) he liked it so much.

A couple weeks ago, I got my girlfriend to take the Fly Fishing 101 and 201 courses at the Orvis store. I figured it would be better for our relationship if someone else tried to teach her how to fly fish instead of me... Needless to say, I was ecstatic when she asked me to take her out fishing today. We went to the Potomac just north of Chain Bridge - at the "landing pad." I tried a few different color combos for clousers, but no luck. I'm still pretty new to river fishing, so I very well may not have been hitting the right parts of the current. I saw a couple 20" or so carp, but couldn't get them to even glance at the clousers or a woolly bugger. We turned towards the eddies and "coves" and actually got a few nice size sunfish. My girlfriend actually even hooked into a 12" or 14" largemouth, but it ended up breaking off. The best part was she had a great time and made some great improvements casting.

This forum has been great (as has everyone at the Orvis store), so hopefully I can keep learning more about DC fishing from you all.
