{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Planning a trip to the Frank Church Wilderness in Idaho

I grew up in Salmon and was just back there last week and the week before.

Things to do:
High Mountain Lakes!!!  They're awesome!!!  Start around Redfish and Alturas, there are tons of lakes around there.
River float down the Middle Fork of the Salmon: rapids and "drift boat" (rubber rafts but same fishing style)
Steelhead in upper Salmon River around Stanley/Challis
Island Park in SE Idaho ~4 hour drive away but take some extra days and go there, I recommend renting a boat for Henry's Lake or do a float down the lower Henry's Fork.

While I was there, I fished:
U P Lake
Wallace Lake (put-and-take, not recommended)
Stone Reservoir (Little Timber Creek)
Henry's Lake
Bear Valley Creek
Lake Agnes (Montana)
Big Hole River (Montana)

I backpacked into the Frank Church Wilderness in '09 along the Big Creek trail. We fished Big Creek almost exclusively (trail runs right alongside it for miles). Excellent fishing for native cutts on dry/dropper combos and for huge bull trout on big ugly streamers. The trailhead is at Big Creek Airport. There are some big fish in Big Creek and you could spend your entire trip on it.

Definitely don't need waders; just wet wade in lightweight sandals and wool socks.

Anyone ever been?  It would be a combination hiking/fishing trip, so we'd be looking for good fishing and nice scenery.  We will be on foot, and won't be able to pack in waiters or boots because we need to save weight.  Anyone ever go?  Any recommendations on where we might want to fish or hike in?  Thanks.
