Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Corolla, NC Intell Request

years ago I waded out on the sound side and hooked a huge unknown fish that I only saw a quick flash and it broke off.  I was stripping a clouser and it crushed it.  I have no idea what type a fish it was but it still haunts me.  Access was difficult as most of that side is covered with houses, back then a development was underway so I drove my suburban into a sand road for the development to access a nice lagoon in the sound, very scenic.  Now it must be full of houses.

Hi- Just got back from Corolla and didn't do too well in the surf. No pocket water near our beach. One day we went pier fishing down at Jennette's in Kill Devil, which was fun if you like that scene. Bait and lures there.
Some intel that I didn't get a chance to act on is that there are a LOT of speckled trout on the sound side, in the morning and near drop off. They like "gulp" plastics according to a couple sources but I'm sure they'd like clousers. Was told you could wade but I'd suggest a boat. Report if you get into em!
Good luck

I'm headed to the Corolla, NC this weekend and wondering if anyone has some local intell they would be willing to share (good local shop, favorite fly, technique, etc...).   I won't have time to get a guide, but I should have a few hours each day to hit the beach with either my fly or spin rods.

Thanks & Cheers,
Brooksy
