I just joined this group a few months ago so the recent update to this thread caught my eye.  I had the same questions about whether or not flies and other gear could be carried on as I am going to Montana on Friday.  Great information- thanks everyone.

I would also like to say I have found all the posts on this group very informative and helpful.  I just started fishing a few months ago after attending the Orvis beginner fly-fishing classes (which were great, by the way) and I have appreciated the wealth of knowledge everyone in this group provides and the time you take to provide it.
