The rocks above Fletchers are also good.  You still have to be wary of the water :-)

I know what you mean about not doing well.  I had not had any luck for shad and then one day, I was out in a boat and was about to come in and they closed the dock so the police boat could come in.  I was stuck in the river for another hour and it was the best fishing I've had.  The shad can turn on and off quickly, but it helps if you can get a boat lined up with a seam.

My son & his friend are in their early 40's and have trout and bass experience, but I don't believe either one has fished for shad.  I have had a little success from the rocks at Chain Bridge and just below Little Falls, but have not done well from a boat near Fletchers..... but if that's where the fish are now, we'll be there this weekend and many thanks for the advice.
