{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Bluegill, longear hot spots

Thanks guys!  I know exactly where you're fishing -- I was there a couple of weeks ago super early near the billy goat trail A.  I found though that you have to backcast up against the "raised" C and O trail where people jog/walk.  Any tips for this?  Are you guys actually getting into the canal?  Should I go over to the other side by the more wooded trail?

Thanks again -- this forum is awesome.  ;)

Today from about 1 to 3 I fished Widewater just up from Old Angler's Inn.  The very first part of the water, right next to the fence blocking the bike path, where the water is dammed up has a ton of structure.  Rocks,  submerged logs, etc. Using a dry-dropper rig, I was getting hits on nearly every cast.  Pretty good sight-fishing when the sun was out.  Lost count of the tiny ones I caught, landed 2 "big-for-a-bluegill" fish.  The biggest red breasted one jumped and crushed the dry right as it landed.  Who says warm water fishing for panfish can't be fun? Made me wish I had a 3wt.
I was using a hopper as my dry and tied on a tiny black and gold beadhead nymph about 6 inches below.  Cast and strip and pop.  They love little trout flies.

Hey, if you guys were looking to hook up with some of these characters where would you go around here?  I've got a handle on where to go for smallmouth, but I love bluegill fishing and figured I'd throw this out there in case someone doesn't mind sharing a hot spot with me ;).

Oh, so far I've really only found:

1.  CO Canal at a few different spots
2.  Little Hunting Creek in pools

Tidal Basin?  Upper Potomac?  Ponds?  Lakes?

Thanks folks!
