{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Bluegill, longear hot spots

Before the canal blowout, I used to have my best results at the bottom end of Widewater, where there was a little current starting to as Widewater would neck down to the much narrower canal.  Also the flow at the outlets of the locks can give up some good fishing - and yes a 3 or 4 wt is just about right.  There's also so good sized C&O bonefish to be found, but they are very skittish.   Once they're finished with the repairs, I think the fishing will improve.   There's an update here http://1.usa.gov/QwTQQ3 (scroll down)

Today from about 1 to 3 I fished Widewater just up from Old Angler's Inn.  The very first part of the water, right next to the fence blocking the bike path, where the water is dammed up has a ton of structure.
