Hi Aaron. I'm grew up in Sound Beach -- the next town to the west of Rocky Point -- and I head back up every summer for a week or so. If I were you I'd just take Rocky Point Landing road to the beach and fish there, given the limited amount of time you have (you should stay longer!). There's a rock jetty that goes out a bit and you should be able to get into some bluefish in the morning or evening from the jetty or even from the beach. If you have access to a kayak even better. The last few years over July 4 I've caught dozens of blues up to 23" and even a 28" striper from the kayak right off Sound Beach and Rocky Point. Fluke may also be around (although tough to land on the fly), and if you have kids the porgy (scup) fishing should be good. One word of caution: I'm not sure what the parking situation is at the end of Rocky Point Landing Road. There probably isn't any, so you may want to have someone drop you off or just walk depending on where in Rocky Point you'll be staying. Also, I generally use a spinning set up when fishing the L.I. Sound, so I can't give you much advice on flies. I think using the fly will be tough unless you get into a school of blues, in which case you could catch them on a bare hook. If you stick with the fly the clouser should be fine, although you might want to go with a bigger hook. I generally use metal (hopkins, diamond jig) with a fly teaser (maybe 4/0 -- can't recall) and they always seem to go for the fly. Good luck -- I love fishing up there! --
