Great feedback! It probably has more to do with my confidence than reality. There is no question that I enjoy fly fishing more than anything, so I will continue to push my comfort zone.

I'm certainly no master but I would say 40-50 feet is the furthest I can cast in ideal weather, even with a double haul (ok, I'm still learning this technique). That said, my biggest bass was caught last summer on a pond in a boat with a popper at about 20 feet away. The fly hit the water, I waited a sec and then gave it a pop and fish was on. Last summer I caught a good smallmouth across from Fletcher's in one of the rowboats and that was probably in the 15-20 foot range, too.--
