I caught my first true salt water striper on the fly in MA this past weekend. Not the biggest fish but I put in the time to try and get a salt water fish on the fly so this one felt extra rewarding. We were fishing in Nahant on the north shore in MA, using a 9wt G Loomis Pro4x with an Orvis reel.
One tip I got from a friend was to use darker flies when fishing off the rocks in the surf, the darker color silhouettes against the white of the foam and bubbles. This guy hit a purple and black dumbbell eye half and half.
Looking forward to the fall striper run here in DC. Any idea about when that starts?
