It all depends on the water level. It looks like the gauge at point of rocks is around 1.2 ft. I haven't been up to Harper's Ferry this summer, but usually this time of year the water level is at it's lowest all year. Wading on the potomac at Harper's Ferry above the confluence should be no problem, even for a 12 year old. Half the time you can skip from rock to rock if the water is low. There are also other places to wade below Harper's Ferry. There's easy access at the Brunswick, MD campground, which isn't far from Harper's Ferry. You can rent kayaks/canoes from there as well. Lots of people fish the stretch from the Brunswick campground to Canal Rd. parking area below the Hwy15 bridge.

I'm back visiting my parents for a few days and want one day chasing bass. Wanted the groups opinion on the Rappahanock down near the Rapidan confluence or the Shenandoah near harpers ferry. I've fished the confluence a few times and never the Shenandoah. Will probably have my little 12 year old brother, as he is becoming an avid fly fisher. Looking to see what area people think will be easier wading for my lil brother. If I'm missing any option, always open for new ideas.
