{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Hi everyone

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I was actually looking at getting an 8 weight rod sometime in the near future, as I've heard that its a popular rod in the area. Also HeaveToo thanks for the suggestions about flies, I actually haven't fished a popper since I was in Maine. And thanks for the suggestion on how to find a place. I'm still new to the group so it will be good to search through more of the posts.

Sadly I missed the Beer Tie, but I will be sure to make it to August's, I think that should be a great way to get out and meet everyone. Thanks again everyone.

Currently there are a lot of different places to fish around here.  One nice place to try is Riverbend Park.  There is good smallmouth fishing on the Potomac there.  Clowsers and wooley buggers should work okay there.  For some reason yellow poppers work well there also (Could be that there are a lot of small little frogs in the area and their bellies look yellow).

Eventually you may consider a bigger rod.  A lot of us fish 8 weight rods in the area.  The snakehead can be a handful in some of the areas and there are a good number of large largemouth bass and striped bass.  There are a lot of opportunities.  Another tactic is to look at a map and then come on here and search the name of that fishing spot in the archives and see what you find.
