Thanks, Jeff. I'll try a strike indicator. When I high stick for trout I just watch the end of the floating line - but the carp are very quick to spit the fly. FWIW, Carp Carrots, Bristle Leechs and Yuk Bugs all got good looks and some bites from the carp. 

I may give Lock 8 sector of the big river a try next time out but not sure when that will be. I'm now in countdown to vacation in Ontario mode.  Water looked low enough yesterday but I didn't bring footwear suitable for wading.

I think you're correct on the minnow - first I've ever caught on a fly.
