{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fabulous day in the SNP today 7-11-14

Hey -- we had a great day wet wading for brook trout today -- and didn't see another person the entire day.  From about 8:00 through 1:00 they were hitting dries like crazy along any seam, eddy, corner, or any other Homer Simpson water where you could sneak up and get a good drift.  Actually, 2 fish hit even after the fly was very clearly starting to drag -- which did NOT happen when we fished over at Garrett Co. on July 4th weekend.  Actually, that weekend was very good practice for the SNP -- I highly recommend it.

After 1:00 the suface bite seemed to die very suddenly, forcing us to think about where else we might try to work to catch fish.  After about 7 minutes of comparing sweat stains, we decided that under the water might be a good idea to target ;).  The best fish of the day (pic) was the very last -- I was fishing a deep pool and wondering where my heavy streamers were (apparently at home)....staring at my fly box and for whatever reason, that size 32 yarnturd and a piece of shot seemed kinda like a streamer and did the trick.   It wasn't his teeth that made a mess of the fly -- that's just part of the pattern-- true story!

Anyway -- we had a heck of a day.  I counted 26 landed by 3:00 when we left, plus 3 dace and many other misses and slaps -- which is a very good day for me.  At 2:58 we both got stung by bees and wanted french toast.

Oh, and Beth caught a snake.

I hope everyone is spending tons of time outdoors, and rocking farmer's tans and all that good stuff ;).  Try wet wading some cold water if you get a chance.  It feels like peeing your pants, but the exact opposite.
