To go along with the "look at a map" part, here are two Google maps that I've found very helpful:https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=215985205281593198240.0004b9b1bc00cfd986f02&msa=0&dg=feature
The first one is from the Fletcher's Cove site:The second one is linked on the TPFR site:--

http://www.tpfr.org/Currently there are a lot of different places to fish around here. One nice place to try is Riverbend Park. There is good smallmouth fishing on the Potomac there. Clowsers and wooley buggers should work okay there. For some reason yellow poppers work well there also (Could be that there are a lot of small little frogs in the area and their bellies look yellow).--
Eventually you may consider a bigger rod. A lot of us fish 8 weight rods in the area. The snakehead can be a handful in some of the areas and there are a good number of large largemouth bass and striped bass. There are a lot of opportunities. Another tactic is to look at a map and then come on here and search the name of that fishing spot in the archives and see what you find.
