I picked up a canoe last spring, and used it a bunch of times on the Shenandoah and Upper Potomac (downstream of Harpers) to target smallmouth, and it's an absolute blast. Really anywhere on those two rivers with a small boat will give you an awesome day of fishing. Also great for the Shad run at fletchers, as long as you don't get too close to the current from the falls.

The Potomac, below Harpers Ferry. Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin sells maps, this set might be most useful: http://bit.ly/1eDD3XG. I enjoy scouting Bing maps set on Bird's Eye and Google maps set on satellite for places to fish. Don't have a kayak yet, though.Mark
