Just joined this group. All my fishing is out west, with no experience in the Potomac, but I plan to get some.
Orvis has really stepped up and now make some really quality rods. Not too familiar with the Streamline, but the Clearwaters are good entry level coupled with a Battenkill reel. I have to plug the Echo as well--really nice rods (I own one), I believe made by the guy from G. Loomis, but like Redington, they are made in Korea so cheaper. Echo reels are a good buy too at less than 80 bucks. Also agree with looking for good used stuff.

Does anyone have recommendations on any of these combos or are there other options out there? Is it worth spending more for a first rod or should I wait a year or so?
