I’m going to toe the line of an post advertising products and services and mention that there are a multitude of local choices for help regarding gear and tackle in this area and you shouldn’t be afraid to visit any of these places to help make your decisions.
I know I speak for Dan, Trent, and anyone else that frequents this board that also happens to work in the fly fishing industry – we’re here to help you. Don’t be shy and ask questions and come in and see us. Try gear on. If there’s something you want and none of us have it, ask us if we can special order it. Half the time, the shops call each other to help the customer find what he’s looking for. We all try to be on a first name basis with our customers and we actually LIKE helping you in your fishing endeavors. Living vicariously through your discovery of fly fishing and travels is something that everyone that works in a fly shop enjoys. We certainly don’t do it for the money.
I think we also understand that there are times when you need to be price conscious, and you know, we have a solution for that too. All the shops in the area carry a good range of products from low to high end, and although the prices in the fly fishing industry are the same no matter where you are in the country for most products, we all have alternatives if need be. We even have sales sometimes.
Your local shops are here to help you enjoy your sport/craft/addiction. That means help you choose the appropriate gear, help you find fish locally and somewhere distant where you’ll vacation, and help you understand the consequences of your actions, both positive and negative. The shop employees will have his or her own morals, standards, and things that make fly fishing appeal to them. We’ll have brand loyalty, bias towards or against certain products or fishing techniques, and even opinions on other fishermen and ethics like conservation, catch & release, and fishing regulations.
In the end, put some faith into your local shops and let us do what we do best – be there FOR you and help you the best way we can.
Regards,
R
