{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Antique Bamboo Rod w/ G.W. Gayle Reel

I spent an rainy Saturday antiquing (junk shopping) and bought the rod and reel pictured. The rod says "Orvis" but looks like it's hand lettered along with "Ruby Eye." I read somewhere online (so it must be true) that Orvis made bamboo kits way back and people would also name the rod. I'm skeptical that this is the case with this rod. It's 8', probably a six weight, and very slow, which is not a surprise. It's missing a few guides.

What I'm more curious about is the reel made by G.W. Gayle and Son of Frankfort, KY. It looks like a Simplicity#3 but without the model stamped on it. 1920's vintage I think. The only markings are the Mfr and location.

Anybody have any thoughts on these two items other than, "It would cool hanging on the wall." ?
