I live in walking distance but don't fish it much--not even every year. In spite of efforts to remove the significant siltation (Google searches can give you the background here), the lake is a very shallow mud puddle. Yes, I've caught fish. Small bass and various bream on the fly rod. I've seen carp and catfish taken on bait. In the summer, you will see people fill up a bucket with tiny sunfish. As for the best places, well, wherever you can find structure. Downed trees, for instance. And for a fly rodder, wherever you an find room to cast. Most of the pressure, and generally from the bobber and worm crowd, is near the dam on the southeast side. I think the fishing is probably marginally better on the west side, but access points are few and far between. It's a pretty shallow puddle.

Anyone have any pointers on the best spots around the lake, time of day, fly patterns and best techniques for fly fishing Lake Accotink? It is the closest water to my home and with extremely limited time between work and the kiddos, it is the easiest spot for me to get to and fish regularly for an hour here or there. Any local knowledge and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
