Thanks Dalton!  We do take the kids to the Philip Merrill CBF site in Annapolis. We did some seine netting (kids loved it), I never thought to ask them about a more individual approach. I'll look into the Potomac River Program as well. The school I teach at is in Potomac MD, and is incredibly close to the river. It seems too convenient to waste. They read The Red Kayak, so we try and keep it relevant to the reading as well.

Have you gotten in touch with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation? I recently met a fellow on a stream that works for CBF and leads some trips like this in PA for middle school field trips. It looks like they run similar trips in the Potomac and Anacostia close by, see more details and contact here. The descriptions don't mention fishing, but I'm pretty sure the guy I met said the kids do fish on some trips.
