I would skip braided because it is way more expensive. If you are not used to it it makes easily wind knots. And if you put one that is too strong for the rod, you may end up snapping it if you snag on something. Just go with a 6 or 8 lb test mono and replace it every year or so.
Also fluorocarbon for spooling is a waste of money, very good for leaders thou.
