I highly recommend you chat with or better yet spend a day with guide PJ Daley, owner of Savage River Angler (not to be confused with "Savage River Outfitters", the shop). He spends 100s of days a year on the Savage and N. Branch, so you'd learn a ton. PJ is who I call when I need up to the moment info about either fishery. Outstanding guide and all around good guy.

A few years ago I had my dog swimming free in a wonderful stream pool off the Columbia Pike access point. Two bicycle police rode by, then stopped to convince me that 4MR is badly polluted and I really didn't want my dog in there. The thing is industrial drainage, got it.

This isn't a very good time of year to fish anywhere north of the equator. If I were to fish, I would fish wooly buggers slow and deep.
