{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Sunday morning club casting

Hi John,

I'll be there so long as the rain is light when it's time to head out there.  Otherwise, I'll surely catch you later!

Thanks for doing these, I think it's great.

I will be out casting at Fletcher's Sunday morning about 8 a.m., if anyone would like to get in some practice.

I will bring a few extra two handed rods with Skagit lines for anyone interested. We will review stages of the double spey.

For single handed casters we will continue working on loop control, and some ways to increase distance.

Temperatures shot be in the 70s low 80s and high tide is about 10:20.

As always if you have a question or anything specific you are working on, let me know.

 Hope to see you.

Chrs
John

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Bluegill, longear hot spots

Hey, if you guys were looking to hook up with some of these characters where would you go around here?  I've got a handle on where to go for smallmouth, but I love bluegill fishing and figured I'd throw this out there in case someone doesn't mind sharing a hot spot with me ;).

Oh, so far I've really only found:

1.  CO Canal at a few different spots
2.  Little Hunting Creek in pools

Tidal Basin?  Upper Potomac?  Ponds?  Lakes?

Thanks folks!

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Riverbend Park Fairfax County

To get to the pipeline park at the nature center not the main area of the park. Go down the path in the back of the parking lot. Follow that path till it brings you out on a larger trail I believe it's called bootlegger trail. Follow that till you come to the river, the trail will turn left. Stay straight on this trail, you will cross a bridge and then know your at the pipeline when you come to the first big clearing. It is probably about 20 min or so walk.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Bamboo Fly Rod Makers

If any area bamboo rod makers are interested in corresponding, getting together, etc., please respond with email address and we'll try to organize some type of information sharing.  I'll be at the Catskills rodmakers gathering next weekend, but will respond to all emails when I return.  I have a fairly complete rod making workshop in Old Town Alexandria with a place to meet if any rodmakers or rodmaker wannabes are interested in getting some type group activities started.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Steelhead/ Salmon fishing anyone?

Aaron,

Check out dfishinfool.com I think thats how its spelled.  A guy named Don Mathews.  He guides around the cleveland area, where there are a ton of great streams with big fish and light crowds.  Much better than PA in terms of the quality of the experience.  He does a very reasonable 2 day steelhead school that will tell you everything you need to know and also includes guided fishing.  Flights to cleveland are also super cheap.

Hey All,

It seems like its coming to that time of the year that everyone gets steelhead/salmon fever and I for one am starting to feel the heat.  I know that the Salmon River in central NY is a popular area however I have heard about other areas throughout PA  that is also pretty popular.  I have to do more research but I am interested in your thoughts.

I am interested in going for my first fishing trip and this sounds like a perfect opportunity.  My main hold up is that I would need to do this on the cheap. .  I am happy to carpool and camp (already have most of needed camping equipment) with the idea that we get to spend most of the time hooking into some of the big boys.

So in short,  If anyone is interested in taking a weekend trip, let me know.
