Just wanted to say that, as a long-time lurker on this email group, this is a great idea. In my head, I always want to come to more events and do more with the group, but somehow never get around to it - and hopefully this will actually make me a more active member. And it has inspired me to join FFI. Thanks to all TPFR leaders for your time and effort in building community and resources.BrianOn Thu, Apr 18, 2024 at 9:44 AM Misha Gill <mish...@gmail.com> wrote:Yep, it's first come first serve. My thought is to send one car* of people to any given spot spot. But, we're going to take alternates, and if there are enough alternates that a second car could go, I'm planning to accommodate that. I am concerned with over-pressuring a spot, so the second car would go to a different location. I'll prepare an info sheet for each trip and put each "car" on an email thread to arrange logistics.*There's no requirement for everyone to go in the same exact car. You can arrange your logistics off the email thread. Here are some prospective dates for the trips. Each date is a Saturday. Rain date for each trip is the following Saturday. Please respond privately to me (mish...@gmail.com) and I'll add you to the list for the given date.CarpApril 27thSmallmouth BassJuly 13th, 2024September 7thTroutMay 11thJune 15thWarmwaterJune 8th (to coincide with Bluegill tournament)--On Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 9:43:33 PM UTC-4 Z Onk wrote:Good question, Robert. For the first one, which is the Carp day, the small group is determined by response time - first 5 to respond get the nod.Moving foward … TBDBrookOn Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 6:35:29 PM UTC-4 RobSky wrote:Great idea, how will the participants in the small group be determined? The Board of Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders is pleased to announce that TPFR will "host" a half dozen or so FFI-member-only small group fishing trips in 2024. These trips will be in addition to the open-to-all fishing trips that TPFR has been hosting for the past few years on the Gunpowder River. The Board intends to continue hosting these trips for all.
One of the things that members appreciate most about TPFR is the chance to connect with new friends who like to fish, and then go fishing. This initiative is an attempt to facilitate meeting new fishing buddies and help members gain on-the-water experience. We hope that this initiative will lead to lots of people going fishing and making new friends, which will in turn drive more club engagement.
The requirement that the outings will only be open to FFI members is a new prerequisite for TPFR activities. Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders is an FFI organization, and outside of this one activity, attendance at TPFR events is, and will continue to be, open to all. However, as an affiliated club, we owe an obligation to FFI to help it maintain and grow its membership. Membership in FFI costs $35 per year and can be obtained at https://www.flyfishersinternational.org/Join-Renew Please make sure to list Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders as your affiliate club when you sign up! Save your payment receipt to show when you sign up for a trip.
Ground Rules for the small group trips:
The initial six trips will have the following themes:
- Trips will be limited in size to 4 attendees with two alternates.
- All skill levels will be welcome.
- Bring your own gear and food.
- Attendees must be FFI members and must sign a liability waiver.
- A "trip leader" will be assigned for every trip.
- Destination will always be within 2 hours of DC.
- Destination will be a surprise until trip and attendees are confirmed one week prior to departure.
- Trips will be walk-wade trips unless otherwise specified.
- Trout (2)
- Smallmouth Bass (2)
- Carp (see the TPFR Forum thread on the April 27 excursion]
- Warmwater Tidal Fishing
Questions or ideas for improvement for this initiative? Please post them on the TPFR Forum.
