Thanks guys! I'll throw a rod and a box of flies in the car. Going to be a dawn patrol mission for an hour or so before the wife gets up, but I'll post back with a report. Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Airlie Resort?
Dave, I fish a number of farm ponds in my area. During the day the fish may remain deeper in the cooler water. So streamers may be more effective. A dusk, then you may get some top water action as there are more insects around, gurgles, grasshoppers, and such may be the ticket. Hopper droppers may work well any time.Have fun.KevinOn Sat, Jul 30, 2022, 1:54 PM Rob Snowhite <rob@robsnowhite.com>...
Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Airlie Resort?
Dave There are fish in the ponds. They mow right up to the edge so not much hiding spots for fish. Always worth bringing a rod. {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Airlie Resort?
Greetings all. The wife and I have an overnight coming up at Airlie Resort in Warrenton. Apparently there are a couple of ponds on property and guests are allowed to fish. I imagine there are bass and bluegills, but is it worth bringing a rod? Ordinarily I wouldn't bring a rod on a quick trip like this, but the wife invited me to consider the option. {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Quick Cape Cod Trip Report: Stripers/Bluefish on the Fly
Did a 1/2-day guided trip off the Oceanside of Cape Cod earlier this week…while not peak season (that would be June), got into a good number of stripers and bluefish—sometimes mixed schools of stripers and bluefish. In those mixed schools, lost a lot of flies due to the toothy blues slicing through the 20# test tippet after a hook-up. That was resolved with a change to a wire leader. Largest striper brought to the net...

I meant to reply to the entire thread, but ended up just replying to Owen. Dyke Marsh, over near Belle Haven Marina on the Potomac, used to be a decent area to fish for bass and sunfish. I would guess the snakeheads might be in there now too, it's been decades since I've been. It's a pretty straight forward hike in, but I would recommend going at (more or less) high tide.On Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 2:46:45 PM...

Lake Cook is stocked by the State in the spring and fall. Not sure what's in the lake once it heats up.4MR has fish. The south banks have a lot of brush so casting is a challenge. North banks are more grassy like with a steep slope to the water, but castable. A power piling near Mt Vernon bridge often has a small hole with a small bass or two. It can be easily cast to from the North bank.DanielOn Mon, Jul 25, 2022 at 6:48 PM Daniel...

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fletcher's Cove? - 7/23/22
Kevin,See: https://dwr.virginia.gov/fishing/regulations/reciprocal-licenses/The answer is not that short, or easy. It depends on where you are standing at the moment you are fishing. Depending on where you are fishing you need to know which set of fishing regulations you are bound by. DC Regulations for DC waters. MD Regulations above Little Falls. Potomac River Fisheries Commission regulations are enforced downstream...

To piggy back on Daniels's question. Can someone confirm that if you fish the Potomac on waters bordered by DC, essentially within the beltway, you need a DC fishing license. But on the Potomac bordered by MD and VA you only need a MD or VA license. On Sat, Jul 23, 2022, 8:57 AM Daniel Page <dpage4545@gmail.com> wrote:Hey all - Trying to break in a new fly rod. Weather and watersheds are funny things. Good info (for future trips) here, I think. We fished Sat. afternoon in some pretty OK turbidity numbers by my experience. I know that different waters fish differently, but I've caught fish in water with turbidity in the 20's (and 30's). Granted, that's usually a presentation where you can hit them...
