Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} November fishing

Not much to fish for in Tierra del Fuego that time of year. Most of the lodges dont begin operating until late December/early January.

If cost wasn't an issue I'd pick the Seychelles. Belize is a great choice for a fraction of the cost.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Passing the Baton

It is with a full heart and many mixed emotions that I wish Trent and Dalton the very best in their future endeavors.

For those of you who don't know, Trent and Dalton have both been an integral part of TPFR since its inception over 10 years ago. They have both volunteered countless hours serving the clubs best interests and helping to build what is arguably one of the nation's largest and most important fly-fishing communities.

I would also like to thank Trent, Dalton, and Club Founder Dan Davala for introducing me to TPFR and the greater DC Metro Area fly fishing scene roughly six years ago. After attending my first Beer Tie with Dan, I was promptly asked to help former VP John Billotta with a Casting Church. Since that time, TPFR has become a major part of my life. I'm still going to Beer Tie and still helping at Casting Church. Thanks to Trent, my wife Bunny and I first meet at a TPFR Holiday Party!

I am honored to take on the role of Club President and I'm looking forward to serving such a critical and ever evolving community of anglers.

As you all know, it takes a village! Rob and I are committed to building a team of club officers by January 1st, 2020. This team will help us to reinforce our mission of introducing and educating anglers about the Tidal Potomac River, while growing our membership through education, and community outreach.

We have already identified some members who have graciously offered up their time to help us reach this goal and will be welcoming them to the Board in the weeks to come. That being said, we are still in need of help.  Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, comments, concerns, or if you're interested in volunteering in any capacity.

Please join me in thanking Dalton and Trent for the passion, commitment, leadership, and hard work they have put into our community over the years!

 Sincerely,
 Art Noglak

Well done, good and faithful servants of the TPFRdom!!  Thank you both for carrying the torch, burning it hot, and holding it high.  I have met some of my very best friends through the club too, you guys among them.  Thank you for your years of work and dedication, to the betterment of many.  I am pleased.

Congratulations Dalton, on the joy that is to come!  And thank you to Art and Rob for taking the helm.  It has been a pleasure to serve with you all over the years.  I am so thankful to see the dream live on in you all!

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fly Fishing Chincoteague Island

Thanks for the guidance.  I was there early in the month and we visited Poseidon.  Hurricane came through on the Friday, which screwed the fishing for Monday and Tuesday.  I spent 9 hours on the kayak at Little Tom's Cove and Oyster Creek with no result.  That's fishing!

In a kayak, check out the channel on the south end of Oyster Bay. I've caught puppy drum there in early September. If you want to spin fish, croaker should be around too.

From shore, try around the docks at Memorial Park for small black sea bass, flounder, and snapper blues. Also be sure to check out the fishing pier at the west side of downtown waterfront park. You can catch snapper blues, hickory shad, and schoolie stripers at night there. During daylight hours you'll be able to find needlefish and toadfish.

Took a non-fishing vacation looping from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole to
Yellowstone and back through Park City. Took at 7 piece 5 weight bought on
Amazon that turned out to be a fantastic $80 rod, and fits in my carryon
suitcase, so it will be going on a lot more trips.

Fishing highlights that I managed to slip in:
-Jackson Lake Dam - tailwater below he dam was beautiful (Snake River) -
clean water, gravelly bottom and shore - see picture. 14" cutt 2nd cash
(big yellow simulator - hopper/dropper combo (small nymph trailing). 9
more in the next hour, all on topwater except one nymph grabber.Irish
coffee at nearby Jackson Lake lodge was an experience enhancer.
-Firehole - fished it several times for short periods, several brown
trout on dry flies. Unexpectedly fished with 3 bison/buffalo who were just
around the corner (yielded them the stream)
-Madison/Gibbon - 15 minutes on each, no fish to the bank, but both
fantastic rivers, especially the Madison.

Yellowstone optimized for fly fishing - lots of dedicated sections and no
backcast issues. You do have to buy a park permit (used to be free), not a
wyoming non-res license.

Drove by the Henry's Fork on the way back to Salt Lake City, drift boats
everywhere, great looking river.

Recommended area for your bucket list - bears, buffalo, elk, mountains and
a lot more. Tetons were stunning.

Yambag,

They were giving Blane props on their post. In no place on that post does it show them trying to take credit for someone else's catch of a lifetime.

Missy creek is a really nice shop and the guys I have met who worked there have been nice, but they can be a bit disingenuous with their reports.

Anyone else see this absolute unit of a smallie from the weekend?

Stats are below:

Guide: Blane Chocklett

Angler: Brian Strife

Length: 25.25

Girth: 17.5

I believe the length x girth calculation puts the fish over 9 pounds which would be state record had it been killed. Props to them for releasing it.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Canal water

Took a bike ride along the towpath yesterday from Great Falls Tavern to Lock 7 and back. Canal has water, murky, at Great Falls Tavern and above. Downstream the water clarity was the best I've seen in a long time from Lock 15 to the lower end of Widewater.  Water levels are still low in this stretch. Did have fun watching a bait ball in Widewater just below Lock 15 and the large bass (SWAG 5 lbs) smashing it in two for a quick meal.

I did the Hole in the Wall to Motts Run float via VOC a few weeks ago - it is a nice day-long float that gives you plenty of time to fish.

Maybe get on at Rappahannock River Outfitters at 32645 River Mill Rd, Richardsville, VA 22736 - see attached.

Or have VA Outdoor Center (VOC, at www.playva.com) take you on a shuttled trip above the fall line (Fredericksburg city) on the Rappahannock? For example, the Hole-in-the-wall to VOC trip is 10 miles on the water and takes ~6 hrs (includes some modest rapids). It's a good time.
