Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Canoe stabilizers/outriggers

My 1st job when i was in HS was at a canoe and kayak company in Greensboro, NC and we sold the Castle Craft canoe stabilizers.
My dad bought some for his canoe and so did my grandfather.
They work great! we usually had them hover just over the water surface and were more of a fail safe for tipping over.
They are VERY good for stability!

I got an earlier set of these ( http://www.castlecraft.com/canoe_stabilizer.htm ) that were foam cylinders.  Not as aerodynamic as these but very functional.   I can stand with confidence.   I also have a piece of plywood that fits over the gunwales to sit on.  When I was alone in the canoe I sat backwards over the front seat to better center the weight and keep both ends of the canoe in the water.   Now that I am older with some balance issues, I am thinking about adapting a Walker to the plywood platform to aid in balance.  If you can stand a push pole comes in handy also.

I recently got an old Coleman canoe that I plan to use on local rivers and small lakes; however, I don't feel comfortable standing and casting in it solo or with a second person. I would like to get some kind of stabilizer or outrigger so 2 people can stand and fish from it. Been looking at the wingman but would really appreciate any recommendations or advice from the group. Thanks! Also, once I get something I would be happy to plan a float or hit a lake with someone!
