Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Paint for hard bodied poppers?

I'll give acrylics and Sally Hansen a try. Thanks all!

Craft store acrylic paint works great.  It sometimes looks dull until you clear coat it.  Sally Hanson's Hard as nails is good for a quick test, but epoxy is really nice.  I've been meaning to try UV resin, it's expensive but setting up for epoxy takes time, so for doing one or two poppers, a quicker solution would be nice..

If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll get out the Copic air brush set, but don't try to coat that with Sally's - it'll pull the color right off. Bodies colored with Copic markers/airbrush need to be coated with Liquid Fusion, UV resin, or epoxy.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Shepherdstown, West Virginia - Recommendations

Try the Needles section just below Dam 3 at first light if you can get up that early. Also the rapids at the Weverton section  a few miles down stream from the 340 Bridge would probably be a good bet.
If can get a copy of GMCO's Pro Series Map of Upper Potomac River ,would probably help you quite a bit in getting around the Harpers Ferry area. I think Bass Pro at Arundel Mills carries them,  Dick's and/or LL Bean may have those Maps as well

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Memphis fishing

I'm echoing what James and Andrew are laying down. Alternate fishing activities will be more productive than actual fishing this time of year. The new BPS at the pyramid is unbelievable. Cozy Corner BBQ is pretty damn hard to beat for BBQ as are Rendevousz dry ribs and a Ghost Island Golden Ale to wash it down. Gus' Fried Chicken and Qwik Check are also must-eat at destinations.

As far as urban fishing is concerned and it being August...well...you've got a couple options - Galloway Golf Course off of Poplar has a few water hazards that play home to some rowdy largemouth and carp...only issue is that you'll have to fish at night. It's about 15-20minutes from downtown. It's a safe area so there's nothing to worry about crime-wise. The other option would be to fish the ponds on Mudd Island which are off of Harbor Place Dr - about 3 minutes from the BPS. When I was in school there, the rule was strictly catch and release but I believe that's changed in recent years and no fishing is permitted. Those ponds play home to some nice largemouth, panfish, and some GIANT grass carp that'll smoke a well-presented white boogle or small popper. If you've got the ability to drive to fish somewhere, I'd recommend the Red River and Spring River both in Arkasas in that order.

Stay fly...and definitely enjoy the eats.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Eclipse Fishing

We were going to, but work got in the way so we hiked a little peak on SNP and watched the eclipse. Some very interesting pictures on Instagram of people fishing across the country. Jealous of anyone who got on water.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Memphis fishing

If you have time to drive 3 hours, you can do the Eleven Point River in Missouri, or the Little Red or Buffalo in Arkansas. Don't know about the in-town options, would guess you're looking at creeks and ponds. Also, you can go to the new Bass Pro Shop at the old Pyramid Arena.

Don't have any advice to give on fishing, but make a visit to Cozy Corner if you're looking for some BBQ - one of the best pork sandwiches in town and their banana pudding is the most delicious I've ever had.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Jersey Shore in September

I've been more of a lurker here the past year but I'm hoping someone with experience up that way can enlighten me.

We're planning a trip up to see my in-laws labor day weekend in Monmouth county, I fished some of the jetties earlier this year without much luck on traditional tackle with plastic jigs and spoons. I have an 8wt with both floating and sinking lines so I have that covered. Does anyone have any tips on flies to use? Assume Clousers of various colors and the like. Is a bite guard needed with bluefish being around? Dawn and dusk for the best bite?

Thanks
