I actually spoke with her about casting instruction and she told me to schedule a lesson or two with Mark Kovach, who was her primary casting instructor (according to her, "he's forgotten more about fly casting than I'll learn in my lifetime"). She also learned to cast from Lefty Kreh, who apparently took her on as a casting pupil, and it definitely showed. On Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 7:51:05...

Actually, it's called the River Arno. It flows right through the center of Florence, and folks fish for Carp. With bait. Right there in front of God and Everyone. There is a swell little store that caters to the local anglers. Cross the Ponte Veccio and turn right on the first big street, upstream from the bridge. When we were there the selection of fly rods was limited to Fenwicks. The Brag Board has to be seen to be believed...Date:...

I'm going to Italy the first week of july and won't be fishing, but my general sense just from reading about the country is that any decent fishing would be further north than you will be.  I'm sure there is the Rome/Tuscany equivalent of 4 mile run (i.e somewhere you wouldn't dream of fishing unless you really didn't have anywhere better to go) but doesn't seem like there is much otherwise that would be worth bringing...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fredericksburg Float....If we ever get lower water

Thanks!  I made it out Saturday evening.  I put in at Motts Run and we paddled hard upstream a ways and then floated to the first fast water.  I need to get a rack on my car for a canoe so I can float to the city.  the mid day fishing was slow with only a few smaller smallmouth and a tiny striper, but the second the sun started dipping, they slammed poppers.  Mostly small fish, but my dad hooked into what...

Sightfishing NSH in the canal is definitely possible!  I've tried it (with spinning gear), though not to any great success, due to sloppy casting and short time.  I've done so successfully in the Tidal Basin.  Pattern doesn't seem to mater much on spinning gear or fly, to my (limited) knowledge, just something big enough to be food and flashy enough to p*** them off!  -- http://www.tpfr.org --- ...

You need a jet for that stretch of the river....that Crestliner is great but you will knock the lower unit off in no time. The only other suggestion for  bigger boat up there (prop) is something with a tunnel hull and jack plate. {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fredericksburg Float....If we ever get lower water

Gregg, There are pros and cons to the lack of access on the Rapp. The cons are that there aren't than many short trips, but once you get on the water you can have a wilderness experience an hour from DC. For half day trips my first recommendation would be the motts run to fall hill avenue float. Take out just past the VOC but before the first major rapids. There are some Rapids ( the ones you can see from 95) that include one...
