Sorry for the barrage of messages the last couple days, but like many of you I'm trying to put off doing my taxes.
First off, we now have TPFR shirts now, unfortunately our vendor was running a bit behind and we didn't get them for the last beer tie. They are 100% polyester and rated for 40+ UPF protection; the brand is Zephyr. I'll plan to have these at the upcoming events for sale for the great low price of $20, bought together with a matching hat for the low price of $40! After this round of events, we plan to have an online store up and running.
We have several exciting events coming up over the next month or so, keep track of our events page for more updates:
- February 28, 2016 (Sunday) Going away party for our VP John Bilotta. John Bilotta, our vice president and an IFFF Master Casting Instructor, is moving away. He's hosted many of his "casting churches" at Fletcher's over the years, offering free casting instruction to our members. We are going to see him off with a casting day with free donuts and coffee. Come to the Boat House at Fletcher's Cove for free casting instruction from IFFF certified casting instructors from 8:30AM-11:00AM. Find directions to Fletcher's here.
- March 14, 2016 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Meet other club members at Whitlow's on Wilson in the Clarendon Community of Arlington from 7:00PM to 9:00PM to tie flies, watch fly fishing films, and consume food and drink. We will again be hosting Friends of Fletcher's Cove, and helping this organization raise money through a raffle and by our members donating shad flies. Please consider donating money on their website or bringing shad flies to be used in their future fundraising efforts. We will be in the Sandbar and Patio area of Whitlow's. Bring a vise and materials if you would like to, we will also have a table set up to teach beginners how to tie as well. Find directions to Whitlow's here.
- March 19, 2016 (Saturday) - Project Healing Waters Fly Tying Marathon. Port City Brewing in Alexandria will be hosting our fly tyers from 12:00 Noon to 3:00PM (the timing on this is fluid right now, we'll confirm this later) to make flies to donate to Project Healing Waters, an organization that provides mental and physical rehabilitation to our wounded veterans through fly fishing. All flies will be used by the wounded veterans on fishing retreats. In addition to fly tying, we will raise money for the organization through raffles.
I'll post individual reminders about these events closer to the dates.
