Like I mentioned, it's up to the gate agents, but I've ever had an issue with my 4-piece rod tubes. The 4 piece tubes exceed the length dimension that most airlines allow (22 inches), but for something like a rod tube, they often ignore the rule since it can fit above normal suitcases. You basically just need to hope you don't get someone having a really bad day.

over a shoulder. I was planning on making this a carry on only
luggage trip. Getting it through TSA looks do-able.
Guess my question is...will that be allowed on the flight as carry on.
I'm checking the AA site and it's not really helpful. I was just
planning on throwing it up in an overhead bin.
