{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Brazil trip (warning no flyfishing content)

Just got back yesterday from 7 days on the Rio Negro out of Barcelos.

Fantastic trip. Water was on the high side scattering the fish deep in the trees but still caught 144 Peacock bass with 6 over 4kgs. Also caught two 15kg Pirarara catfish. The vastness of the waterways in this area is a bit overwhelming. If the movie "Water World" ever comes true, Brazilians from the Amazon will dominate. Fly fishing this time of year would not have worked real well. Need huge noisy lures. And hitting pockets the size of dinner plates in the middle of dense vegetation. If you want to fly fish the Rio Negro go in October through mid November. I didn't have a choice on my dates because the trip was anchored to work. Caught almost all the fish on neutrally bouyant green over white twitch bait, after we got their attention with the biggest woodchopper you've ever seen.

Here is a picture of my biggest fish (way back into flooded shrubs we found this little open hole) He came on the woodchopper.
