Gunpowder Fishing Day,   Saturday - Dec 4
Organized and sponsored by    TPFR and the Northern VA chapter of TU

Well, with the low water and closing of the Shenandoah Park, the trout fishing has been tough.  So if your hankerin' do some fishin', or want to practice those techniques you just learned at those upcoming Orvis Euro Nymphing classes with Bryan Donoway (also on the Gunpowder - see Orvis Arlington), or just want to fish the wonderful Gunpowder River  --  mark your calendar to join us for a day on the Gunpowder.

We will post details in the upcoming weeks but mark the calendar now.
It will be awesome!

Good evening:  what equipment do you need to bring for the casting church,   I'm a novice who has been out a few times on guided trips so I haven't invested in all of the equipment yet. Still trying to figure out exactly what to get.   Thanks.

We will have our casting get together on Sunday, 12 November at Fletcher's Cove from 8am to 11am.

This Casting Church will be free form, just working on whatever people would like.

Additionally, we will work on FFI Casting Skills challenges for anyone interested.

Come on out, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced caster, it is all fun to work on solving casting problems and casting challenges.

If you are just getting started, this is a great way to meet people who can help.  There will be casting instructors on hand.
If you are preparing for an upcoming trip and looking to re-fresh your casting skills, this is a great opportunity.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: CASTING - Sunday 12 November - Fletchter's

Thank you.  Don't quite have the rod and reel yet … still shopping around … so good to know that it is still worth the trip over.

Thanks again.

If you have a rod and reel, bring it, but I'll bring spares and you can also throw them.  We'll be casting in the grass and maybe on the riverbank to practice our roll casts.

It's good to bring a heavy leader (Ox to 2x) to practice -- no reason to trash a nice 5x for practice.

No need for waders unless you WANT to get in the river.

I hope this is helpful. Reach out again if you need more specifics.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} West Virginia license

Great point.

I'm not in Pennsylvania alot, but I ended up doing their 12-month non-resident for the same reason.

Thanks, Russell. That's a bit of change for 3 days. The bite would be less and more attractive if WV offered a 12-month long non-resident license.

You'll need to register on the West Virginia DNR site. This is where you'll buy your license and stamps:

This website gives the fee breakdowns:

But in summary, for non resident trout fishing, you'll need:

1) Conservation Stamp: $13
2) Trout Stamp: $16
3) License ($3 a day for 3 days): $9

4)If the fishing will be in a national forest: $2

Hope this helps. I just did a little fishing this past weekend in WV at Seneca Lake so just had to look it all up.

Can somebody tell me what I need in the way of licenses/permits to fish for 3 days in December in West Virginia? My tired brain is not up to the task today.
