When I moved here I was strictly a west coast river guy (trout/steelhead/salmon/shad) with some bass pond fun sprinkled in. From that perspective it was a tough transition, particularly as I was previously able to be on the water for steelhead/halfpounders year-round within ten minutes of leaving my door. 

However, once I realized the possibilities stripers offer on the bay, potomac and tribs, it was a major revelation. 

Stick with the stuff you enjoy, but don't be afraid to branch out. The first time I found myself in a kayak surrounded by acres of breaking fish and diving birds, I knew things were going to be ok.
