lol not on topic but see my post on photographing fish for my thoughts on that.As far as the topic on hand, I need to fish more in 2016. I fished less in 2015 (I think only about 20-25 days) which is less than any year since i started.I don't consider it a resolution since a resolution should be something you actually have control over, but my goal for 2016 is to catch a permit on the fly.On Thursday, December 31, 2015 at...

I don't think anyone ever changes anyone's opinion with online posts. My experience is that people change their opinions and behavior when they decide to do so on their own. People have a lot of strong opinions on just about everything, including fly fishing. Most folks on here are probably very nice, reasonable people in person. Not a resolution but a wish for 2016. That the people who post pictures and videos here of their fish lying in muddy water, on rocks, or muddy water/rocks/gravel/grass, or being derricked out of the water and then lobbed back in to the water like a softball 10-30 feet (mostly those 4" brookies with flies as big as they are it seems)

For 2016 I'd like to add a new native species to my list; greenback cutthroat. I plan on accomplishing the goal with Justin when I go visit him in Colorado. I also hope to finally land a striper on the fly as this was one of my goals for 2015 that was not accomplished. My main goals for 2015 were to keep getting better at casting (something we all are always working on I'm sure) and to finally catch a wild brown trout (both were...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Potomac at night
Well, just got home from an interesting outing on the Potomac. Left the Bolling AFB marina around 4:00 or so, headed down towards the Woodrow Wilson. Cut out of the channel near Blue Plains, went in near the pier. OK, since my name was taken in vain above, I have to respond.Good basic advice here. Walk the beach and look for structure and/or bait. Seemingly featureless beaches that have bait have yielded great rooster/mackerel/jack action up and down the Pacific Coast for me. Erratic and fast seems to be the only thing that works and most of the hits come right behind the face of the wave in front of you. If you want to find a boat,...
