{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Beth's catfish and first NSH of the 2015 season

No nothing secret -- it's just a stupid little fly on a small hook with beadchain eyes, 2 clumps of marabou and some flashy dubbing.  I used to use flash strands, but they foul too much.  

I do things a little differently than most people do for warmwater species -- whereas most folks like larger hooks and hence larger flies, I do not.  I like small flies.  

My go-to fly is basically the one below, but with no flash and instead a small amount of flashy dubbing between the 2 marabou clumps.  Also, I don't like the stringy marabou in the one below -- I hand strip the crappy tips and just use the fluffy stuff which moves more.  Also, the green clump below is almost too long and will probably foul -- I go shorter.  Also, I like it only in a size 12 and 10 hook.  I don't even care for it in a size 8 because I don't think it gives a good profile.  A size 14 has too little of a hook gap and will fatigue (bend open) after a few fish.  

I've caught 5 NSH (?) with it now, several large bass, some catfish, perch, maybe something else, and more sunfish than I can count.  The only species I don't use it for is carp, because for carp I want a heavier fly that gets down quickly and brook trout because I really only fish dries for them (or else I'd rather go do something else....like play gin rummy with Beth).  

A pocket full of these and a good hook file to keep the points sharp and I'm happy.
