{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Bonefish on the fly

I just returned from a trip to Mexico where a good friend conveniently scheduled his wedding near Ascension Bay in Tulum. The ceremony was great, but the fly fishing absolutely blew my mind. If you ever get the chance to head down there, visit the flats. You won't regret it. Hooked into these guys on a gotcha fly and an 8 wt. Pulled...

I'm with the others on strip set/slip strike. Also make sure the body of the popper is clear of the hook point. When  tying my rule of thumb is that the body ends above the point of the hook and doesn't go past it.Mark -- http://www.tpfr.org --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders" group. {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Shad from Shore Tips

Put soap on you leader to remove grease therefore letting it sink quickly. Or buy a singling leader they are sold at urban angler like $20. My beat experience is using a liquid based soap like hand soap and rubbing it on the leader. Good luck -- http://www.tpfr.org --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders" group. To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving...

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} bass poppers

Do they have a weed guard on them?  I normally cut them off the top water stuff I buy, as they affect hook sets for me.  I don't set the hook on top water until I feel a solid tug, but that's just my personal opinion. Hey I don't comment much here anymore, but since moving back to NM I try to respond to anything in the area if I can help.  Fires or not fishing is tough in the Gila.  If backpacking is your main focus, you are going to the right place.  Its one of the most amazing places to visit.  The isolation and remoteness means very few backcountry visitors compared to most other backpacking spots in the lower 48.  Snow...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} bass poppers

Hey all, I went fishing after work at my neighborhood pond yesterday which usually fishes well when it's raining. I found there was a lot of action with poppers...but often found myself losing fish pretty quickly after the strike. I did hook one though where I tried waiting longer to set the hook.  What's the best way to set the hook with topwater poppers and bugs? Should there be a short pause before lifting...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Trout in the ClassroomBecause of the rain, several TIC releases have been rescheduled from this week

Hi;You all probably have heard about Trout in the Classroom (TIC). If not, please visit www.troutintheclassroom.org for general info. It's a program in which elementary through high school students learn about cold water conservation by incubating trout eggs, hatching and raising the alevin to fingerling size and stocking them in local streams. Around 70 Maryland schools (Virginia has over 200) take part in TIC. Montgomery County...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Shad from Shore Tips

Hey man, Def need a sink tip with weighted flies or a sinking line, but It's all about positioning from the shore. Find a big eddy and a point where you can get out there- lower tides obviously help. I like to fish the pinch where the main current and the eddy merge cast upstream into the current and strip up through the seem - usually on a 45 and usually fast. Keep it controlled though, you'll have better luck with even strips...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Shad from Shore Tips

I tried to fish from shore last year while my name was on the waitlist for a boat but didn't have much luck. It's tough to really get your line out there with a fly rod, you really need to get into the main currents to have a shot at fish. Granted I didn't have waders but I think the area around Fletcher's would be tough to wade.I'd suggest using a spinning rod if you want to fish from shore. As others have said, the area around...

I was going to fish from shore because like I said I haven't fished on the Potomac or for shad before, and I was thinking I would kind of soak in the experience and watch others on what their doing and learn some. definitely going to invest in a sinking leader. and I plan on tying the SHAD DART per Rob Snowhites youtube page (which is a godsend,...
