{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Help naming leader material
Happy holidays, I met a nice guy fishing the Jackson river in VA earlier in the month. He had this seemingly florescent red and green and red portion in the top of his leader for a strike indicator. He explained it as 2 spools of material he tied together with a uni knot. But I forget the name of that material. Does anyone happen to know what I'm talking about? It seemed to be a better indicator then the floats...

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Best Portable Fish Finder?
Forgot to mention - the battery holder and most of the extra wire/cords fits really nicely into a "standard" sized soap dish if you drill a hole to pass the cord through. I think mine was $1 at CVS. If you don't want to drill into your boat to mount the transducer, I'd consider epoxying one of those RAM arm mounts to the side. I really am pleased with how well they've worked - I have 3 of them (fish finder monitor, fish finder transducer + arm, rod holder) mounted across an accessory bar at the front of mine. I'd also be concerned about the suction cup failing and losing the transducer.I suspect its...
Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Best Portable Fish Finder?
Nicely rigged, Andy! My only question is why isn't the fish finder finding fish for you? Haha...Actually, I'm also looking at something with a suction cup holder for the transducer, like the "Humminbird 4089701 571 HD DI Portable Down Imaging and DualBeam Fishfinder with Soft Portable Case." If that sticks to the side of the kayak then I wouldn't have to be drilling holes in it for a mount. AND, if your battery setup works...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Best Portable Fish Finder?
I sometimes fish from an inflatable kayak and had trouble finding a fish finder that used a battery wouldn't damage my kayak due to weight. After searching online, I figured out that I could run a Garmin Echo off of 8 AA batteries, so I bought this inexpensive battery carrier, these connectors, and 8 rechargeable AA batteries, this transducer arm mount, and a bunch of 1" ball and socket RAM mounts and rigged...

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Best Portable Fish Finder?
I'm looking for suggestions, and there's very little in the archives on this topic. I'd like a finder that I could use on a kayak, or take with me in other situations. I don't have one of those nice fishing kayaks that have a dedicated battery compartment and the ability to mount the transducer underneath. The Humminbird 140C Fishin' Buddy 3.5-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder seems pretty neat because it will run...

Does anyone else suspect that these carp are a different version of carp than the common carp? I remember reading about roach in my giant "Encyclopedia of Fishing" book when I was a kid. My understanding from the book was that roach were most commonly found in Europe.
