{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: NCC-TU, TPFR and CCA-MD Present the 2018 Tidal Potomac Slam Fishing Tournament

Not my tournament by lures on a fly rod is not fly fishing, especially if a fly line is not being used which I am guessing it isn't if you are fishing for catfish.. I guess this is more of a fun tournament than anything too serious, but i would use igfa rules.

Oh and yeah the Lagoon isn't part of the tournament, the main-stem only this year. We may expand the boundaries next year, depending.

Hey everyone,

Very excited to be putting this on with TPFR. Let me answer both questions:

1) Spin lures ("jiggums") on a fly rod would be considered for the fly fishing division, though that certainly is a grey area.

2) No fish species are excluded. 50 lb blue cats are fair game.

Hope to see everyone on the river this spring and please sign up to support a great cause!

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Certified Casting Instructor Cert. Process

Hey Carl and David,

I'm still planning to take the CI, signing up for the Sept 29-30 days at Susquehanna State Park as soon as registration opens up. I think getting a consistent group together to prep would be great, perhaps at Fletchers for some casting churches?

David,

There are a few of us around that can help.

If you can come to the Antietam Angler's Casting Rendezvous on March 5th, in Williamsport MD that would be a great start.  There will be a handful of CCI's as well as Phil Gay an MCI.

Are there any other's that are interested in certifying or at least re-engaging the casting clinic's please let me know.  I've been trying to find a regular time and place that will fit my schedule.

Did you ever go through the certification? I'm interested in potentially pursuing as well and wondered if you could share your experience or if anyone else would want to "train" together to prep.

Thanks,

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Certified Casting Instructor Cert. Process

Hey Regan,

I'd love to work together on getting ready for the test. I'm planning on taking the test in September so definitely way behind you in terms of prep. I'm working with Trent alot and occasionally Carl Z depending on schedule. I saw Carl posted about getting a group together as well. I can also talk to Dave Cleaves about maybe getting some CI prep courses together.

You can email me directly to talk further. It would be great to get a number of us on the same page.

Andrew,

I took the CI test on 8 Feb in Crystal River, FL. In short, I did not pass. The test was stopped during the second teaching task (Task 17). Up to that point, I had passed the written exam, passed all the casting tasks (1 - 15), and passed the first teaching task (this was all told to me after the test was over).

During the second teaching task, I just got lost, forgot where I was, and then just started talking too much. The examiners had a sidebar, and then came over to me and announced their decision. I thought it was fair and honest.

The examiners were generous with their feedback on how to solve my errors with the teaching tasks. I am taking that to heart, and I will take the exam again this summer at Livingston Manor in NY.

It would be good for me to work with another, practice the teaching tasks. It would be good for you too, so looks like mutual advantage. We could also critique each other's casting tasks, and the explanations for how a cast is made.

The testing will be part of a larger fly fishing event that will include a CI Prep Class for those that are considering taking the test; but are not sure they are ready.

Details are not up on the FFI website yet so if you your interested post here and I will forward the info.

Thanks,
