{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: BEER TIE - Mon 14 August - Colony Grill

Hi All,

I'm a long time angler but am very new to fly fishing (never been yet...but first trip will be soon), even newer to tying. I signed up for a class on the 5th at Murray's Fly shop in Edinburg and that will be my first time casting a fly rod.

I heard about your group from Ryan at Vienna Orvis and I plan on making it to Casting Church and Beer tie this month. Any suggestions as to items I should bring for either event would be great.

For the Beer tie, is there a particular pattern that will be the focus? I have now tied a few Wooly Buggers and Clouser Minnows, but little else.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Casting for Recovery Fund-Raising Auction

It's that time again! Casting for Recovery is soliciting donated items for our Mid-Atlantic Program contribution to the annual online, national fund raising auction.

This year it's a lot earlier, in order to coordinate with a fly fishing event held in Montana in September. The Auction itself will run September 27-October 5, 2023

Deadline for donations is September 1, 2023.

We've found that the best items are experiences like guided fishing, woodsy cabin weekends, and sports and arts event tickets. Other winners are angling art, on-stream fishing necessities, jewelry, and home decor, especially quilted items. All of these attract multiple bids.

The minimum retail value should be over $75

Please send your ideas to caseypeltier@hotmail.com, preferably with pictures. I'll write up the little blurb, unless you want to, and I'll send in the application to the auction mavens.

Come on out and meet your fellow anglers, bring your fly tying material and your fly tying questions.

Bring your fish stories.

Festivities begin at 7pm.

Board meeting at 6pm for TPFR board members.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Casting - Sunday 13 August

We will have our casting get together on Sunday, 13 August at Fletcher's Cove from 8am to 11am.

This Casting Church will be free form, just working on whatever people would like.

Additionally, we will work on FFI Casting Skills challenges for anyone interested.

Come on out, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced caster, it is all fun to work on solving casting problems and casting challenges.

If you are just getting started, this is a great way to meet people who can help. There will be casting instructors on hand.

If you are preparing for an upcoming trip and looking to re-fresh your casting skills, this is a great opportunity.

I found Zach Pfignst who guides out of Cape Charles when I was recruiting speakers for PRSC, and he does target them: https://marshmadnesscharters.com/.

There was also a conventional tackle guide from that area who spoke at the Lefty Kreh Tie fest back in 2020. He was very upfront that he would put you on the fish but couldn't help with any fly fishing stuff. At the time he said it was him and one other guide offering trips and they politely didn't share info with each other.
