Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Casting Church, Sunday, 11 Oct

We will have our casting get together on Sunday, 11 Oct at Fletcher's Cove from 8am to 11am.

We are going to focus on tight loops using a couple exercise:

1) Tight loop, shooting thru a hoop

2) Shooting line on the backcast (long distance back casting)

We will also help anyone with any particular casting issues. Bring your questions. We will have some extra gear, no need to buy anything. If you are curious about flyfishing/flycasting and are wanting to see what it is about, come on by.

We will practice social distance. Pretty easy to do since we are outside. And since we are all holding fly-rods and moving them around, this separation tends to work out naturally.

However, if you are ill or suspect you might be, please respect the health of others and rest up at home. There will be other casting churches, once a month at least.

Come on out, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced caster, it is all fun to work on solving casting problems and casting challenges.

If you are just getting started, this is a great way to meet people who can help. There will be casting instructors on hand.

If you are preparing for an upcoming trip and looking to re-fresh your casting skills, this is a great opportunity.

If you want to wade, just come prepared. We work on casting on the grass fields and in the water, both single-hand and two-hand casting.

There's a good run of Puppy Drum in the bay this year, but the best place to go is Crisfield, MD, which is a solid 3 hour drive from DC. Once you get yourself out there though it's an amazing spot to fly fish - trout, bass, puppy drum, flounder.... it's my favorite shallow water spot on the bay.

Welcome Daniel! For stripers, you can get into them on foot at Gravelly Point on an outgoing tide by the bridge outflow. Low light is best. Redfish are rare in this area, so I doubt you'll have a whole lot of luck targeting them even in a boat, let alone on foot - especially outside of summer.
