Don't overlook Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary (aka The Duck Pond), bear National Airport!

Hello y'all!! I recently got myself a SWEET old canoe. Super wide and stable, I'm turning it into the ultimate fish finder and dog luxury cruise liner. Haha. I am looking for recommendations on where to take this baby for a spin! We have a couple small lakes I frequent but looking to add some new water to my list. Looking for small slow rivers or lakes! Thanks!!!

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Rose River

Hi guys,

I am planning on taking my dad and son to the Rose River tomorrow and was wondering if you have any advice, since it will be our first time. Our plan is to park at the trailhead and walk up the fire road about a mile and find some pools, hopefully with a few brookies. Are there any restrictions I need to be aware of? Thanks for your help.

Paul

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Watercraft for apartment dwellers

I recommend taking a look at Inova Kayaks. I own one and am thrilled with its performance and portability. https://www.innovakayak.com/inflatable-kayaks The Safari 330 is what I use - https://www.innovakayak.com/safari-330. I've done 5 day kayak camping trips on it. Does well on flat water and rapids. More stable for fly fishing than some other inflatables I tried out.

Hi all, I know there have been a few threads about kayaks and the such, but I was curious for folks' thoughts on fishing watercraft that are compact enough for city living specifically. For example, I've been intrigued by the Oru Kayak. It's super expensive but folds up into something I could store in the trunk of my car or in a closet at home.

I've contemplated stand-up paddle boards, too. I've only been an SUP once and it took me a bit to get used to it (I fell off a couple times) and am not sure how it'd be too fish off one, especially in places with current and rocks and riffles. The one I used was on a calm reservoir. That said, I've never fished in a kayak, either. Only canoes and rowboats.

In terms of use, I was thinking I'd use it primarily for ponds and rivers (upper Potomac/Shenandoah in the summer). Not looking to do anything extreme--just looking to cover more water.

Thanks!

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fishing trip down south

Some ideas come to mind:

- Matt Chipperfield out of North FL. This guy catches tons of big specks on fly and does well on reds too. (https://northguanaoutpost.com/fishing-guides)
- FINAO Sportfishing out of Virginia Beach. Sight Casting to Cobia and big drum. He's does very well. There are a few episodes of Blacktip that he is in that highlight this fishery.. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnSFeRAgBk&t=778s)
- Laguna Madre like Yambag mentioned. That place looks absurd.
- Florida Keys...no idea on what's happening in the summer down there but that place is just flat out fishy.

Are you limited to the us?  There are places in Belize that have way better fishing at a fraction of the cost for what you will pay in florida or most places in the southeast if you are hiring a guide.
